Invoicely — MVP PRD

1. Overview

A standalone invoicing tool for freelance designers who currently use spreadsheets and email to manage client billing. The MVP lets designers create branded invoices, send them by email, and receive payment confirmation.

2. Problem statement

  • User & context: Freelance designers billing clients
  • The friction: Invoicing in spreadsheets takes ~45 minutes each, and payments are hard to track
  • Current alternative: Spreadsheets + email
  • Impact: Wasted hours and late payments

3. Goals & non-goals

Goals

  • Create and send an invoice in under 5 minutes
  • Accept Stripe payment and confirm receipt
  • Store invoice history per client

Non-goals (out of scope)

  • Multi-currency support
  • Tax calculation
  • Recurring invoices / subscriptions
  • Mobile app
  • Team / multi-user access
  • Accounting integrations

4. Users & roles

  • Freelance designer — creates and sends invoices
  • Client — pays the invoice

5. User stories

  • As a designer, I want to create an invoice so that I can bill for completed work.
  • As a designer, I want to send the invoice by email so that my client gets a payment link.
  • As a client, I want to pay by card so that the designer receives payment.

6. Data model

  • User — id, email, name, stripe_id, logo
  • Client — id, user_id, name, email
  • Invoice — id, client_id, status, due_date, line_items, total
  • Payment — id, invoice_id, amount, paid_at

7. Technical constraints

  • Platform: Web
  • Integrations: Stripe, transactional email
  • Shortcuts: None

8. Success metrics

  • Primary: Time to first invoice sent (target: under 5 min)
  • Engagement: % of invoices paid within 14 days
  • Retention: % of users who send a second invoice within 30 days
  • Business: MRR at 30 / 60 / 90 days

9. Release plan

  • Target window: 4–8 weeks
